Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the final game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players around the world. While wagering on web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money games?
