Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
