Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he liked taking part in numerous card games when he was young. He found himself getting very competitive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a bit and headed to New York City to participate in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were rough as he would play extensive hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could better his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and focus attention more on poker.
The actual advancement in his abilities began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would frequently challenge each other. Howard had access into a few of the best players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his strategic thinking abilities. He used these strategic ideas in the game of NL holdem.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the best female players the poker world today. He headed to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the next decade. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
