The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in ‘53 and started playing poker before becomming a teenager.

The young gambler started out wagering gin and at the age of ten had won his first gin tournament, while on vacation with his parents. By the age of fourteen the little poker genius had become a pro and dropped out of school.

In ‘54 Stu entered the history books by winning 10,000 dollars in a gin rummy tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still appears in New York today.

The fast talking wiz kid has been likened, in poker terms, to athletic superstars like Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Stu Ungar had a real ability for betting poker but regardless of his successes in Texas holdem poker, he favored playing gin.

Stu once said that there may some day be a greater No Limit Texas hold’em player than him except he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a far better gin player.

In 1980 Stu Ungar was put on the world map as one of the best Holdem Poker players in the earth when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the 1st time. Extraordinarily it was the 1st time he had played in the tournament.

The right after year he put aside any suggestions that it had been a fluke, by successfully protecting his crown. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by succeeding his 3rd World poker championship.

But this poker master also fought with substance abuse and a year right after succeeding his 3rd title Stu past away in his hotel room. According to medical doctors, he had died from a heart attack which was triggered by his lifestyle.

Stu Ungar had started with absolutely nothing but his ability and expertise for the casino game which made this poker fantastic a millionaire quite a few times over.
