No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
