Right Before you Tilt
Ah, the poker steam. If a poker enthusiast claims never to have peered over the shadow of an upcoming poker steam – they are either lying or they haven’t been competing for a long time. This does not indicate of course that everyone has been on steam in the past, a few people have awesome control and carry their losses as a loss and keep it at that. To be a brilliant poker player, it’s very important to treat your successes and your defeats in a similar way – with no emotion. You play the game the same way you did following a hard beat as you would after winning a great hand. All poker pros are not tempted by tilting after an awful loss as they are highly accomplished and you really should be to.
You need to understand that you can not win every hand you are in, regardless if you are strongly favored. Hands that usually make players to go on tilt are hands you were the favorite or at a minimum believed you were until you were rivered and you lost a big portion of your bankroll. Bad beats are bound to develop. Accept that certainty right now, I will say it once again – if your sister enjoys cards, if your parents play cards, if your grandparents enjoy cards – We all have poor beats at some point. It is an unavoidable effect of competing in Texas Holdem, or for that matter any kind of poker.
Seeing as we are assumingly (most of us) playing poker for one reason – to earn $$$$, it does make sense that we would bet accordingly to maximize our profit potential. Now let us say you are up $100 off of a 100 dollars deposit, and you suffer a big blow in a NL game and your bankroll is down to $120. You have lost eighty dollars in a round where you were sure to pick up $200two hundred dollars when you went all-in on the flop and had a ten to one advantage. And that fish! He bled you dry on the river? – Well stop right there. This is a classic opportunity for a new bettor to begin tilting. They really just lost too much cash on one round that they really should have won and they are pissed
