Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest bettors anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player.
