Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
