Net High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While gambling on online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world may be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
