Net Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best enthusiasts in the world. While participating in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen playing web poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money games?
